PREMERA BLUE CROSS
Consulted health care opinion leaders from across Washington state in confidential, strategic discussions to gather feedback on perceptions of Premera and key health care reform issues, and used this information to make recommendations for the company’s community engagement and reputation management strategies.
WASHINGTON DATA CENTER COMPETITIVENESS COALITION
Recruit business, labor and economic development leaders from across the state to create an advocacy, and develop and execute earned media and other public affairs strategies to support legislation that will make coalition to make Washington more competitive for job-creating data center investments in metropolitan areas.
Working with key executives and the company’s lobbying team, provide messaging and strategic counsel in the issue areas of education, transportation, fiscal policy and innovation, supporting the company’s public policy agenda to enhance the business climate and the quality of life in Washington and creation of the Cascadia Innovation Corridor between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C.
WASHINGTON TELECOM COALITION
Work with cable, cellular and other providers to provide earned media and other public affairs support for their legislative agenda on issues such as data security, user privacy and proliferation of broadband connectivity throughout the state.
Developed and executed a key stakeholder engagement and qualitative research project to help the company gain a better understanding of neighborhood issues and community perceptions related to the move of its corporate headquarters to Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square.
WASHINGTON FERRY COALITiON
Manage a diverse coalition to help gain legislative approval and funding to build critically needed new ferries for the Washington State Ferry system and to increase family-wage jobs within the state’s shipbuilding industry, resulting in approval of nearly $500 million in funding for 4 new 144-car boats.
EDUCATIONAL TESTING SERVICE
Helped the world’s leading educational assessment and research organization navigate the education policy landscape in Washington, including positioning the organization to secure a state contract to manage item and test development for the Washington State Assessment System and identify other opportunities in teacher licensure and high school equivalency assessments.
PORT OF SEATTLE / SEA-TAC AIRPORT
Enlisted commercial airports, local governments, economic development organization and other community leaders to demonstrate statewide support for Congressional action to increase the cap on the Passenger Facility Charge that funds necessary capital improvements at Washington airports.
HANDS-ON CHILDREN’S MUSEUM
Provided strategic counsel to the Museum’s executive director and volunteer leadership in securing a major naming-rights sponsorship, developing additional strategies for major fundraising efforts, and maintaining strong working relationships with local government partners.
WASHINGTON BANKERS ASSOCIATION
Provide messaging and communications for the association’s professional services and advocacy efforts, and established and coordinate Bankers Care, which organizes industry-wide community involvement programs and highlights the contributions Washington’s commercial banks make across the state.
WASHINGTON COALITION FOR ENERGY INDEPENDENCE
Established and coordinate the earned media and stakeholder engagement activities of a business-labor coalition to support the proposed Vancouver Energy project, which will reduce West Coast reliance on crude oil from foreign sources and create much-needed jobs in Southwest Washington.
FRIENDS OF THE PORT
Established a business-labor coalition and coordinated its public opinion research, earned media and community outreach strategies to build public awareness and support for the contributions made by the Port of Olympia to the economic, environmental and cultural health of Thurston County.
PARTNERSHIP FOR WASHINGTON’S WATERS AND WORKERS (PW3)
Developed a diverse business-labor coalition to build public awareness and support for a more balanced approach to Washington’s new water quality standards that would protect the environment and human health while providing for a vibrant state economy.
McDONALD’S WESTERN WASHINGTON OPERATORS ASSOCIATION
Developed a community outreach strategy, creating approximately 100 separate local engagement plans and customized individual materials for 26 franchise operators in order to help elected decision-makers better understanding their job creation, economic impact, and community contributions.
PUGET SOUND ENERGY (PSE)
Developed a robust early engagement strategy, involved local stakeholders, and build community understanding of the costs and risks in order to help defeat a ballot measure in Thurston County for a hostile takeover of PSE’s local energy infrastructure valued at nearly a billion dollars.
LIFE SCIENCES DISCOVERY FUND
Helped the Fund, a public agency formed to promote public sector research that enhances health care and provides new job opportunities in the life sciences, build legislative and public recognition of their contributions to the state’s economy and quality of life.
HIGHLINE SCHOOL DISTRICT/AVIATION HIGH SCHOOL
Provided strategic counsel regarding stakeholder outreach and public funding to secure a permanent home for Aviation High School, widely recognized as one of the most innovative educational environments in Washington State, delivering outstanding academic outcomes for its students.
LAKE WASHINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT
Conducted confidential stakeholder research with community opinion leaders – both district supporters and critics – and interpreted the results to develop recommendations and messaging incorporated into the district’s successful bond campaign following the defeat of its two most-recent previous proposals.
STOP WA HIDDEN GAS TAXES COALITION
Built a broad coalition and a public affairs plan to oppose legislation to triple Washington’s hazardous substances tax (HST) after lawmakers diverted hundreds of millions in HST dollars to the general fund, generating broad editorial opposition to the proposal, which eventually failed in the legislature.
CITY OF AUBURN
Developed comprehensive community outreach and communications strategies, and worked with city elected officials, staff and various community stakeholders to build public understanding and support of four successful ballot measures.
VALLEY REGIONAL FIRE AUTHORITY
Developed a communication plan to reach residents of Auburn, Pacific and Algona and successfully obtain support for the establishment and subsequent reauthorization of Washington’s first regional fire authority to efficiently deliver fire protection and emergency medical services.
WASHINGTON RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION (WRA)
Provided public affairs, earned media and advocacy support for successful WRA efforts to overturn the state syrup tax and enact a more balanced approach to local regulations regarding the provision of nutritional information to restaurant customers.
PACIFIC NORTHWEST NATIONAL LAB/BATTELLE
Worked with educators and civic leaders to develop a whitepaper on science education in Washington state, setting the stage for the business community to create Washington STEM, a non-profit organization supporting student achievement in science, technology, engineering and math.
YES ON 1183 CAMPAIGN (LIQUOR PRIVATIZATION)
Developed and executed a strategic outreach plan to gain support of local government and community leaders across the state which was important to help ensure passage of Initiative 1183, which got state government out of the business of retail liquor sales.
YES ON 1240 CAMPAIGN (CHARTER SCHOOLS)
Worked with national campaign consultants in coalition building/outreach, earned media and speakers’ bureau efforts in support of a successful statewide ballot initiative establishing public charter schools in Washington State.
